Crown Award winner Brett Varvel, known for Disciples in the Moonlight, American Underdog, Vindication, and County Rescue, joined Hope Studios’ Executive Producer Kevin Christenson at the EKKL Entertainment sponsored press panel at the National Religious Broadcasting (NRB) Convention in Nashville, TN to share about the upcoming drama feature, Slick.

Playing the lead role, Varvel shared how he felt called to the project with its story of grace. He also noted his excitement to play a character quite opposite from most of his previous “good guy” roles as he steps into the role of slick bank robber, Dylan. Christenson highlighted how the film deviates from most faith-based films in that it doesn’t tie everything up in a perfect bow at the end. Much like in real life, the characters learn the importance of grace, but it doesn’t mean all their real-world problems are magically solved by the credits.

In the audience was Slick Producer Nicholas Livanos along with students from Southern Adventist University’s School of Visual Art & Design, which served as the production company for the film. The partnership with a university-based production team prompted questions from the audience on advice for other universities and next-generation storytellers. Slick is currently in post-production with a release date to be announced later in the year.
